With employees and stakeholders across the globe, it was important to maximize access to Qualcomm’s social responsibility report. We recommended building a responsive microsite that automatically resizes to optimize reading on smartphones, tablets and desktops.
Thinking Ahead
Methodologie began working with Qualcomm, the world-leading provider of wireless technology and services, in 2009. We’ve had the pleasure of helping them move their social responsibility reporting to the web—enhancing employee engagement, improving access to information and increasing awareness of their efforts.
Anytime, anywhere engagement
In order to truly reflect the Qualcomm brand and reach their worldwide audience, we recommended a mobile-first strategy for the design of the company’s social responsibility communications. Qualcomm’s technology powers the majority of all commercially available smartphones, and their global employees rely heavily on the devices. Optimizing reading and navigation on a variety of devices was essential to creating an engaging user experience. To achieve this goal, we designed Qualcomm’s first-ever reporting website using responsive media, allowing the layout to automatically enhance the viewing experience on mobile phones, tablets and desktop monitors.
Leveraging the content on the site, we produced an executive summary for situations and audiences when a printed piece is most effective. In keeping with Qualcomm’s commitment to the environment, we minimized waste by designing the summary to be digitally printed on demand.
Encouraging discovery and knowledge
Our goal was to quickly provide visitors with a big-picture understanding of Qualcomm’s social responsibility commitments and make it easy to explore the site to learn more about what interested them. To achieve this, we created “skim-and-dive” site navigation, incorporated storytelling that drew the connection between Qualcomm’s business goals and their responsibility initiatives, and introduced information graphics to enhance understanding.
Recognizing that access to the data is important to key stakeholders, we added links to the GRI Index, Performance Highlights and a PDF report builder on every page of the site.
Crafting compelling content
The Methodologie team worked with a multitude of internal stakeholders at Qualcomm to capture the influence sustainability has on every aspect of the company. With their input, we drafted the 2011 report content, developed the theme and crafted the CEO letter.

Infographics read quickly and add meaning to hard data.

A printed executive summary of the Qualcomm report rounds out the company’s CSR communication tools.
