Can a website be a form of art and a forum
for art?

Talk about irony. Even though Artist Trust is one of Washington State’s most eminent organizations for arts funding, its staff were unable to add words and images to their own website, thanks to a less than user-friendly content management system. Outdated site architecture made it hard for artists and donors to find information. And—perhaps most surprising of all—the work of artists funded by Artist Trust played a negligible role on the site.

We helped Artist Trust create a site as smart and vital as the organization itself. First, we made content easier to find through simple, efficient architecture and big, bold navigation cues. We implemented a new content management system that enables Artist Trust staff to easily and quickly update pages as needed—important for a nimble organization communicating with multiple constituencies. And we designed a clearer, cleaner donor section that better engages the generous folks who provide the lifeblood of Artist Trust’s work.

Finally, we turned the medium into the message by saturating the site with details, images, and colors from work by Artist Trust grant recipients. A “See the Work” section featured prominently on the home page lets users browse artist work and bios. With every click, the value of Artist Trust’s work is made unmistakably clear.
